Herringbone Quilt Workshop
November 9 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Taught by lovely Carolyn Forster. A two day course on the 5th October and 9th of November.
Herringbone Quilt as You Go Quilt
Quilt size: 60in x60in
Block size: 12in x12in finished
Using a machine pieced ‘quilt as you stitch’ technique we sew the patchwork to the backing and wadding in one go. The blocks are then enhanced with hand embroidery of Big Stitch quilting or you can machine embroider or quilt. Then the blocks are stitched together giving you an already quilted top ready to bind. A manageable way to stitch a quilt on the sewing machine.
Fabric Requirements:
Backing squares:
25 x 13in Squares
OR 3m Fabric
These can be all different fabrics or one fabric only
Binding Strips: 1m
If you choose a fabric the same as the backing fabric, then the joining method is not so obvious.
If you have a scrappy back to the quilt then using a contrasing fabric here will give a lattice effect.
Wadding/Batting: 25 x 13in squares
I used Hobbs 80/20
Quilt Binding: 50cm
Fabric:
* Scraps cut 2 1/2in wide
OR 1x Jelly Roll to start with
* 26x 5in squares for the block corners
Embroidery Thread:
I used stranded embroidery thread split into three threads in lots of different colours. You can use one colour, or variegated thread depending on the look you want. If you want to experiment you can use other threads.
